Hon. (Dcns) Otobong Sunny Aaron is a remarkable figure in the dynamic political landscape of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, South South, Nigeria where her dedication to community service and leadership is giving the people  confidence. Born on May 12, 1979, into the esteemed Imah family in Ikot Akpa Ndua, Otobong’s life has been a journey marked by resilience, compassion and dedication to uplifting those around her. From her humble beginnings in a close-knit community, she has blossomed into a leader who inspires others through her actions and vision for a better future.

Deaconess Otobong began her educational journey at Lutheran Primary School, Afaha Offiong, before transferring to Government Primary School, Okop Ndua Erong, where she completed her First School Leaving Certificate from 1983 to 1989. Her quest for knowledge took her to Comprehensive Secondary School, now known as Air Force Secondary School foe her secondary education. She attended the University of Uyo to pursue an Ordinary National Diploma in Wetlands in Environmental Management/Conservation and graduated in 2004. Her educational ambitions did not stop there; she returned to the same university to earn a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Anthropology in 2016. In addition, she has obtained Executive Diploma Certificates in International Human Resource Management and Logistics/Procurement from La Plague Meta Verse.

Hon. Otobong Aaron ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing her own importation business and serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Top-View Nigeria Enterprises, specialising in event planning and a variety of services. However, her heart led her to politics, where she made a bold entry in 1999 to support tne then-Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong (Arc) Victor Attah. She embraced the fundamentals of grassroots politics and emerged as a mobiliser for women and a champion for community needs.

In 2014, she actively supported the immediate past Governor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, as the Nsit Ibom Coordinator for the Udom Ambassadors Support Group, becoming a vital voice and focal point for women in the local government and the state. Her dedication earned her the admiration of the then-First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency (Dr.) Martha Udom Emmanuel. Her commitment and resourcefulness led to her appointment to the Akwa Ibom State Scholarship Board in 2018, where she utilised her extensive experience to positively impact the educational landscape. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served on the Nsit Ibom Palliative Committee and later joined the Election Committee. In December 2020, she was elected and sworn in as the Vice Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government and she has remained at the forefront of grassroots politics and women’s mobilisation for over two decades.

Hon. Otobong Aaron was sworn in as the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area on July 19, 2023. Due to her outstanding performance and the grace of God, she was appointed as the Chairman of the Transition Committee on December 7, 2023, a role she continues to fulfil with dedication and excellence. Under her stewardship, Nsit Ibom has seen remarkable advancements in infrastructure, education and improved welfare.

Hon. Otobong is also the President of the Destiny Minders Foundation, where she has engaged in humanitarian services and philanthropy, making a significant impact on the lives of many. Her participation and contributions to various conferences, seminars and workshops have earned her numerous awards and recognitions for her selfless service.

Apart from professional and political commitments, Hon. Otobong is a successful family woman. She is a beacon of empowerment and she continues to transform the lives of countless individuals in her Local council. Her journey is a testament to the profound impact one individual can have through dedication and compassion. As she continues to lead with vision and purpose, the people of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area can look forward to a future brimming with hope, progress and endless possibilities under her capable stewardship.
