There is no doubt that the contemporary Nigerian leadership landscape is characterised by leadership challenges that continue to plague the wheels of the country’s progress. However in one corner of Nigeria, a man has distinguished himself as a true leader of his people by providing good leadership needed for community and human development. He is Hon. Bulus Daniel, a man whose life story embodies resilience, community service, and visionary leadership.

Born in 1971 in Ohafia, Abia State, to a soldier-farmer father and a mother who was both an entrepreneur and a farmer, his journey reflects a unique blend of tradition and ambition. From a young age, Hon. Daniel was imbued with a strong work ethic, a sense of duty and a commitment to public service that is shaped by the influence of his family and community.

His educational path began at Gyawana Primary School, where he obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1985. The journey set the foundation for a lifetime of learning and self-improvement. He also attended Government Technical School Mubi and graduated in 1996. Not willing to stop at that level of education, he proceeded to the Adamawa State College of Agriculture, Mubi, where he earned a National Diploma in Agriculture Production in 1999. This academic background laid the solid foundation for his later achievements in both agriculture and governance.

Hon. Daniel’s early life was marked by his strong involvement in sports, a passion that shaped his character and drive. Full of energy and creativity, he excelled in football, table tennis and volleyball with numerous laurels and accolades to his credit. His football career saw him represent teams such as Gyawana United FC, Lamurde United FC, and Mubi United Second Brazil. Through these experiences, he developed the leadership and teamwork skills that would later define his political career. In 2004, Hon. Bulus Daniel embarked on his professional journey with Savannah Sugar Company Ltd (now Dangote Sugar Refinery), where he served as a Field Supervisor. His career in the private sector honed his skills in administration and management and his ability to lead teams and drive results became evident. However, his calling to serve his community soon led him into the world of politics.

In 2009, Hon. Daniel began his political career as the Councilor for Gyawana Ward, a position he held until 2011. His dedication to grassroots development and his ability to connect with the people quickly earned him a reputation as a leader who listens and acts. He served as the Sole Administrator of Gyawana Development Area from 2015 to 2019, and again from 2020 to 2022. Under his leadership, the area experienced significant improvements in infrastructure, community welfare and peace-building initiatives. His achievements earned him the affectionate nickname “Dalton” among his admirers and more recently, he has been hailed as the “Grassroots Project Master” for his transformative work in local governance.

Hon. Bulus Daniel ascended to the position of Executive Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Council in 2022, and he has continued to demonstrate his deep commitment to improving the lives of his people. His work as a community mobiliser and administrator has made him a trusted figure in local politics, particularly within the Bachama community. His efforts in peace-building and advocacy for community welfare have been instrumental in fostering stability and progress in the region.

Hon. Bulus Daniel’s personal life is a testament to his grounded nature and his dedication to family. Married to the love of his life, they are blessed with four children (two sons and two daughters) who provide him with constant motivation to strive for excellence. His family remains the core of his inspiration, driving him to achieve his goals and to set a positive example for future generations.

Beyond his official duties, Hon. Daniel is a man of diverse interests. He enjoys travelling, reading and gardening. These ventures allow him to relax and recharge while continuing to engage with the world around him. He has had the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world, including Israel and Dubai and these experiences have broadened his perspective and deepened his understanding of global issues.

A patron and mentor to numerous social and youth-based organisations, Hon. Bulus Daniel’s influence extends beyond the political arena. His dedication to developing and mentoring the next generation of leaders and his involvement in various charitable initiatives have earned him widespread respect and recognition. He has received several awards from both social organisations and national institutions, a reflection of his outstanding contributions to society.

There is no doubt that Hon. Bulus Daniel stands as a shining example of what it means to be a servant-leader. His journey from humble beginnings to a position of great influence and responsibility is a testament to his hard work, integrity and unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community. As the Executive Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Council, he continues to inspire, lead and build a legacy of positive change.
