In the realm of public administration, where vision, dedication and leadership are essentially important, some individuals embody these unique virtues that form the compass of their personal and public lives. One of them is Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, distinguished public servant, cultural advocate and devout humanitarian who has and is making significant contributions to the development of his community and the enhancement of governance at the grassroots level. Born on April 17, 1968, into the illustrious Eshinlokun royal family in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, Hon. Apatira’s journey to leadership was shaped by both his rich heritage and his commitment to education.
He began his education at Holy Trinity Primary School, Lagos Island. Thereafter, he went on to Asakaran Grammar School in Ogun State for his secondary education. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Lagos State University, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Public Administration. His exceptional contributions to public governance earned him a fellowship at the Chartered Institute of Public Management, as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Public Policy and Administration from Western Ville University, San Diego, California.
Dr. Apatira’s career has also seen international dimensions, notably during his time in Saudi Arabia, where he held the position of Public Relations Officer for the Yoruba Community and later served as a trustee of the association. Back home, his passion for culture and community is reflected in his active roles within various Lagos-based organisations, including the Idunganran Club, where he served as Public Relations Officer and Ex officio, as well as his longstanding involvement with the prestigious Eko Club of Lagos.
A devout Muslim, Dr. Apatira has never wavered in his commitment to philanthropy and spiritual service as he generously continues to support Islamic organisations and serves as a trustee for Masjid Tawheed and Al-Alim Prayer Dawah Group.
Politically, Hon. Apatira’s contributions have been pivotal to the development of Itire Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA). His public service career began with his appointment as Supervisor for Environment (2008-2014), followed by his role as Deputy Executive Secretary in 2016. Since 2017, he has served as the Executive Chairman of Itire Ikate LCDA, where his visionary leadership and community-driven policies continue to impact the lives of the residents.
Hon. Dr. Apatira is a man deeply rooted in family values, and his marriage to Alhaja Sidikat Olamide Apatira is blessed with wonderful children. His life’s work stands as a testament to the power of purposeful leadership, service, and an unwavering dedication to the well-being of his people.
